– 1 tablespoon dried thyme
– 1 tablespoon dried rosemary
– 1 tablespoon dried sage
– 2 cups chicken broth (for basting)
– Fresh herbs (optional, for stuffing and garnishing)
– 1 onion, quartered
– 2 carrots, chopped
– 2 celery stalks, chopped
– Garlic cloves (optional, for stuffing)
Instructions
Creating a delicious Thanksgiving turkey is easy when you follow these steps:
1. Thaw the Turkey: If frozen, allow the turkey to thaw in the refrigerator for about 24 hours for every 4-5 pounds.
2. Prepare the Brine (Optional): If you wish to brine your turkey, dissolve salt in water and add spices or herbs. Submerge the turkey in the brine for 12-24 hours.
3. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 325°F (165°C).
4. Prepare the Turkey: Remove the giblets and neck from the turkey cavity. Rinse the turkey under cold water and pat dry with paper towels.
5. Season the Turkey: Rub the softened butter all over the turkey, including under the skin. Season generously with salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, thyme, rosemary, and sage.
6. Stuff the Turkey: If desired, stuff the cavity with quartered onion, chopped carrots, celery, and optional garlic cloves.
7. Truss the Turkey: Tie the legs together with kitchen twine and tuck the wing tips underneath the turkey.
8. Place in Roasting Pan: Transfer the turkey to a roasting pan, breast-side up. Pour the chicken broth into the bottom of the pan.
9. Roast the Turkey: Place in the preheated oven, basting every 30-45 minutes with the pan juices. Cook until the internal temperature reaches 165°F (75°C) at the thickest part of the turkey.
10. Rest the Turkey: Once done, remove the turkey from the oven and let it rest for 20-30 minutes before carving. This allows the juices to redistribute.
11. Carve and Serve: Carve the turkey and serve it beautifully on a platter with your favorite side dishes.
Following these steps will lead you to create a Thanksgiving turkey that is not only delicious but also a remarkable centerpiece for your festive celebration.
