Ingredients
– 1 package (3 oz) Red Jello (strawberry or cherry)
– 1 package (3 oz) Blue Jello (blue raspberry or berry)
– 2 cups boiling water (split between the two flavors)
– 1 cup cold water (split between the two flavors)
– 2 cups whipped cream (store-bought or homemade)
– Clear plastic cups (5-8 oz size is ideal)
Instructions
Making Red White and Blue Jello Cups is a straightforward process. Follow these steps to create your festive treat:
1. Prepare the Red Layer:
– In a mixing bowl, dissolve the red Jello in 1 cup of boiling water until fully melted.
– Stir in ½ cup of cold water.
– Allow the mixture to cool for about 10-15 minutes.
2. Layer Red Jello:
– Pour the red Jello mixture into plastic cups, filling them about one-third full.
– Place the cups in the refrigerator and let them chill for about 1-1.5 hours, or until the red layer is set.
3. Create the Whipped Cream Layer:
– While the red layer sets, prepare the whipped cream (if necessary) and set it aside.
4. Add the Whipped Cream Layer:
– Once the red layer has set, remove the cups from the refrigerator.
– Add a layer of whipped cream on top of the red Jello, filling them again about one-third full.
5. Let the Whipped Cream Set:
– Place the cups back in the refrigerator for another 1 hour to allow the whipped cream to firm up.
6. Prepare the Blue Layer:
– In another mixing bowl, dissolve the blue Jello in 1 cup of boiling water until fully melted.
– Stir in ½ cup of cold water and let cool for about 10-15 minutes.
7. Layer Blue Jello:
– Once the whipped cream layer has set, pour the blue Jello mixture on top of the whipped cream in the cups. Fill to the top.
– Let the cups chill in the refrigerator for at least 1-2 additional hours until fully set.
8. Serve:
– Once all layers are set, remove the cups from the refrigerator and serve chilled.
