Description

These homemade soft pretzels are warm, buttery, and perfectly chewy with a golden brown crust. Made with simple pantry ingredients, they are easy to bake and perfect for snacking, dipping, or serving as a side dish.


Ingredients

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 packet (2 ¼ tsp) active dry yeast
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 ½ cups warm water (110°F)
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 4 cups water (for baking soda bath)
  • ¼ cup baking soda
  • 2 tbsp melted butter
  • Coarse salt for topping

Instructions

  • Mix warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let sit for 5 minutes until foamy.
  • Add flour, salt, and olive oil, then knead for 7 minutes until smooth.
  • Let the dough rise in a greased bowl for 1 hour.
  • Divide dough into 8 pieces, roll into ropes, and shape into pretzels.
  • Boil each pretzel in a baking soda bath for 30 seconds, then place on a baking sheet.
  • Sprinkle with coarse salt and bake at 425°F for 12-15 minutes.
  • Brush with melted butter and enjoy!

Notes

  • For extra crispiness, broil for the last 2 minutes.
  • Swap coarse salt for cinnamon sugar for a sweet version.
