This homemade Easter yellow cake is soft, buttery, and incredibly moist. Made from scratch with simple ingredients, it’s perfect for Easter, birthdays, and celebrations.

Ingredients

Scale
  • For the Cake:

    • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
    • 2 ½ tsp baking powder
    • ½ tsp salt
    • 1 cup unsalted butter (softened)
    • 2 cups granulated sugar
    • 4 large eggs
    • 1 tbsp vanilla extract
    • 1 cup whole milk
  • For the Frosting:

    • 1 cup unsalted butter (softened)
    • 3 ½ cups powdered sugar
    • ½ cup cocoa powder (optional, for chocolate frosting)
    • 2 tsp vanilla extract
    • ¼ cup heavy cream (adjust for consistency)

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  • In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.
  • In another bowl, beat butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  • Add eggs one at a time, mixing well, then add vanilla extract.
  • Alternate adding dry ingredients and milk, mixing until just combined.
  • Divide batter evenly between prepared cake pans.
  • Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  • Let cakes cool for 10 minutes in the pans before transferring to a wire rack.
  • Prepare frosting by beating butter until creamy, then gradually adding powdered sugar, cocoa powder (if using), vanilla extract, and heavy cream.
  • Frost the completely cooled cake and enjoy!

Notes

  • For extra moisture, add 1 tbsp sour cream or Greek yogurt to the batter.
  • Use parchment paper in cake pans for easier removal.
  • Let the cake cool completely before frosting to prevent melting.
