For the Cake:
- 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- 2 ½ tsp baking powder
- ½ tsp salt
- 1 cup unsalted butter (softened)
- 2 cups granulated sugar
- 4 large eggs
- 1 tbsp vanilla extract
- 1 cup whole milk

For the Frosting:
- 1 cup unsalted butter (softened)
- 3 ½ cups powdered sugar
- ½ cup cocoa powder (optional, for chocolate frosting)
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
- ¼ cup heavy cream (adjust for consistency)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
- In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.
- In another bowl, beat butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add eggs one at a time, mixing well, then add vanilla extract.
- Alternate adding dry ingredients and milk, mixing until just combined.
- Divide batter evenly between prepared cake pans.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
- Let cakes cool for 10 minutes in the pans before transferring to a wire rack.
- Prepare frosting by beating butter until creamy, then gradually adding powdered sugar, cocoa powder (if using), vanilla extract, and heavy cream.
- Frost the completely cooled cake and enjoy!
Notes
- For extra moisture, add 1 tbsp sour cream or Greek yogurt to the batter.
- Use parchment paper in cake pans for easier removal.
- Let the cake cool completely before frosting to prevent melting.
