Ingredients

Scale
  • ½ pound shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • ½ pound lump crab meat
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 1 carrot, finely diced
  • 2 stalks celery, finely diced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • ¼ cup tomato paste
  • 3 cups seafood broth
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • ½ cup whole milk
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • ¼ teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • ¼ cup all-purpose flour
  • Fresh parsley, for garnish

Instructions

  • Cook the Shrimp: Boil shrimp for 2-3 minutes until pink, then chop into bite-sized pieces.
  • Sauté Vegetables: In a large pot, melt butter and cook onion, carrot, celery, and garlic for 5-7 minutes until soft.
  • Build Flavor: Stir in tomato paste, paprika, thyme, salt, and pepper. Cook for 2 minutes.
  • Thicken the Soup: Sprinkle flour over vegetables, stir, then gradually add seafood broth while stirring constantly.
  • Simmer the Bisque: Bring to a simmer and let cook for 15 minutes.
  • Blend (Optional): Use an immersion blender to create a smoother texture.
  • Add Seafood and Cream: Stir in crab meat, chopped shrimp, heavy cream, and milk. Simmer for 5 more minutes.
  • Adjust Seasoning: Taste and add more salt or pepper if needed.
  • Serve: Ladle into bowls, garnish with parsley, and serve with crusty bread.

Notes

  • Use fresh seafood for the best flavor.
  • If the bisque is too thick, add more seafood broth to adjust consistency.
