Description

A flavorful homemade Chicken Shawarma recipe featuring juicy grilled chicken thighs marinated in Middle Eastern spices, served in pita with crisp veggies and a creamy yogurt-based sauce. Easy, halal, and perfect for family dinners or meal prep.


Ingredients

  • 2 lbs boneless, skinless chicken thigh fillets

  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

  • 3 tbsp lemon juice

  • 3 tbsp olive oil

  • 2 tsp ground coriander

  • 2 tsp ground cumin

  • 2 tsp paprika

  • 2 tsp salt

  • 1 tsp ground allspice

  • ¼ tsp black pepper

  • 8 pita breads

  • 3 cups shredded lettuce

  • 1 red onion, thinly sliced

  • 4 tomatoes, sliced

  • 1½ cups plain yogurt

  • 2 tbsp mayonnaise

  • 1 tbsp Sriracha sauce

  • 1 tsp garlic powder

  • 1 tsp onion powder

  • Salt and pepper to taste


Instructions

  • In a bowl, mix garlic, lemon juice, oil, and all spices for the marinade.

  • Add chicken, toss to coat, and marinate for at least 1 hour (overnight preferred).

  • Mix all sauce ingredients in a bowl and refrigerate.

  • Grill chicken for 6–8 minutes per side until fully cooked. Let rest, then slice.

  • Warm pita, add sauce, veggies, chicken, and more sauce as desired.

  • Serve warm.

Notes

  • Marinate overnight for the best flavor.

  • Sauce can be made 1–2 days in advance.

  • Use gluten-free pita for a GF option.
