Ingredients

Scale

For the Salisbury Steaks:

  • lbs ground beef
  • ½ cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp Dijon mustard
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • ½ tsp smoked paprika
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper

For the Gravy:

  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 1 small onion, sliced
  • 8 oz mushrooms, sliced
  • 2 tbsp flour
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • ½ tsp thyme
  • Salt & black pepper to taste

Instructions

  • In a bowl, mix ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, Worcestershire sauce, Dijon mustard, chopped onion, garlic, smoked paprika, salt, and black pepper. Form into 4 oval patties.
  • Heat 1 tbsp butter in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Sear the patties for 3-4 minutes per side until browned. Remove and set aside.
  • In the same skillet, melt the remaining butter and sauté onions and mushrooms for 5-7 minutes.
  • Sprinkle in the flour and stir for 1 minute. Gradually add beef broth while stirring. Add Worcestershire sauce, thyme, salt, and black pepper. Simmer for 5 minutes until thickened.
  • Return the patties to the pan and coat them in gravy. Simmer for another 5-7 minutes.
  • Serve hot with mashed potatoes, rice, or buttered noodles.

Notes

  • Use ground chuck for juicier patties.
  • Add a splash of heavy cream to the gravy for extra richness.
  • Substitute cornstarch for flour to make the gravy gluten-free.
