This Bobby Flay-inspired Salisbury steak is a delicious homemade take on a classic comfort dish. Juicy beef patties are seared and smothered in a rich, flavorful mushroom and onion gravy. Perfect for serving over mashed potatoes, rice, or buttered noodles for a hearty, satisfying meal.

For the Salisbury Steaks:
- 1½ lbs ground beef
- ½ cup breadcrumbs
- 1 egg
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tsp Dijon mustard
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- ½ tsp smoked paprika
- ½ tsp salt
- ½ tsp black pepper
For the Gravy:
- 2 tbsp butter
- 1 small onion, sliced
- 8 oz mushrooms, sliced
- 2 tbsp flour
- 2 cups beef broth
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- ½ tsp thyme
- Salt & black pepper to taste
Instructions
- In a bowl, mix ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, Worcestershire sauce, Dijon mustard, chopped onion, garlic, smoked paprika, salt, and black pepper. Form into 4 oval patties.
- Heat 1 tbsp butter in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Sear the patties for 3-4 minutes per side until browned. Remove and set aside.
- In the same skillet, melt the remaining butter and sauté onions and mushrooms for 5-7 minutes.
- Sprinkle in the flour and stir for 1 minute. Gradually add beef broth while stirring. Add Worcestershire sauce, thyme, salt, and black pepper. Simmer for 5 minutes until thickened.
- Return the patties to the pan and coat them in gravy. Simmer for another 5-7 minutes.
- Serve hot with mashed potatoes, rice, or buttered noodles.
Notes
- Use ground chuck for juicier patties.
- Add a splash of heavy cream to the gravy for extra richness.
- Substitute cornstarch for flour to make the gravy gluten-free.
