Description

This Baked Chicken Parmesan is a crispy, cheesy, and saucy Italian-inspired dish that’s baked instead of fried for a healthier twist. Juicy chicken breasts are coated in a golden Parmesan-panko crust, topped with rich marinara sauce, and finished with melted mozzarella. Perfect for a quick weeknight dinner or a family meal!

  • 2 boneless, skinless chicken breasts (halved to make 4 cutlets)
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • 1 cup panko breadcrumbs
  • ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning
  • 1 large egg (beaten)
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 cup marinara sauce
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • Fresh basil (for garnish)

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • Season chicken with salt and pepper.
  • In one bowl, beat the egg. In another, mix panko, Parmesan, and Italian seasoning.
  • Dip chicken in the egg, then coat with the breadcrumb mixture.
  • Place on a baking sheet, drizzle with olive oil, and bake for 20 minutes, flipping halfway.
  • Remove from oven, spoon marinara sauce on each piece, sprinkle with mozzarella cheese, and bake for another 5 minutes until cheese is melted.
  • Garnish with fresh basil and serve hot.

Notes

  • Use panko breadcrumbs for extra crispiness.
  • For a gluten-free version, swap out breadcrumbs for gluten-free panko.
  • If you love spice, add red pepper flakes to the marinara sauce.
