Authentic Rice and Lentil: An Amazing Ultimate Recipe

  • Author: Lauren Baker
  • Total Time: 46 minute

Ingredients

– 1 cup lentils (green or brown)
– 1 cup long-grain rice
– 4 cups water or vegetable broth
– 1 onion, chopped
– 2 cloves of garlic, minced
– 1 teaspoon cumin
– 1 teaspoon coriander
– ½ teaspoon turmeric
– Salt and pepper, to taste
– 2 tablespoons olive oil
– Fresh cilantro or parsley, for garnish (optional)

Instructions

Creating Authentic Rice and Lentil is straightforward if you follow these simple steps:

1. Rinse Lentils: Start by rinsing the lentils under cold water in a fine-mesh strainer.
2. Sauté Onions: In a large pot, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add chopped onions and sauté until translucent, about 5 minutes.
3. Add Garlic and Spices: Stir in minced garlic, cumin, coriander, and turmeric. Cook for another 2-3 minutes until fragrant.
4. Combine Ingredients: Add the rinsed lentils and water or broth to the pot. Bring to a boil.
5. Simmer Lentils: Reduce heat to a simmer, cover the pot, and cook for 20-25 minutes or until lentils are tender.
6. Rinse Rice: Meanwhile, rinse the rice under cold water until it runs clear to remove excess starch.
7. Cook Rice: In a separate pot, add 2 cups of water to the rinsed rice. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low. Cover and cook for 15 minutes, or until rice is fluffy and all water is absorbed.
8. Combine: Once the lentils and rice are cooked, gently mix them together in a serving bowl. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
9. Garnish: Top with fresh cilantro or parsley for an extra burst of flavor and color.
10. Serve Warm: Enjoy the dish while warm, either on its own or as a side.
